IFA 2026 opened in Berlin on September 4 and ran for five days, and the message from the show floor was hard to miss. This year's consumer electronics fair was less about incremental screen upgrades and far more about robotics, artificial intelligence and connected ecosystems.
Robotics Takes Centre Stage
Humanoid robots were everywhere. According to the show's own highlights, day two saw the Innovation Stage turn over to cognitive machines and humanoid robotics. Companies demonstrated service robots handling everyday tasks such as clearing tableware, and bipedal robots greeting visitors by waving and dancing.
The emphasis on physical, embodied AI marked a shift. Appliances and robots are increasingly being shown as systems that understand and act on their surroundings, rather than gadget demos.
AI-Powered Home Ecosystems
Major appliance brands built their pitches around AI across the home. Midea placed its SMART MASTER ecosystem at the centre of its booth, built around an AI Agent with voice control and a Service Agent that, unusually, supports real-time video calls for troubleshooting. Midea also brought its robots to life with live demonstrations, including a robot preparing and handing out popcorn.
Foldables and Gadgets
On the device side, the show was a staging ground for the foldable smartphone race. Xiaomi gave the public its first real-world look at the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a passport-style foldable, days before Apple's own foldable event. Chinese brands had a particularly strong presence at the show, and the overall theme was products that blur the lines between phone, home and car.
Why IFA Mattered in 2026
Trade shows like IFA are where the direction of consumer tech becomes visible before products reach shelves. In 2026, that direction was clear: intelligence moving into physical machines, and devices designed to work together as ecosystems rather than in isolation. Buyers can expect the announcements made in Berlin to shape the products arriving over the following year.
Every great product begins with a clear idea presented well, and the same care in presentation is what makes a business website stand out.
